Boothbay shuts out Lisbon, 4-0
The Boothbay Region High School girls soccer team improved to 4-10 on the season with an upset, 4-0 shutout of the Lisbon Greyhounds (6-4-4) on Sherman Field, BRHS on Wednesday evening, Oct. 12.
"What a great game!" said Coach Ben Powell in an email. "All the girls played great tonight and I couldn't be happier. Boothbay came out of the gate strong and Lisbon didn't know what hit them. They couldn't match the Seahawks speed up top and the strikers and mid-fielders were able to create chances all game long."
Hannah Cola opened up the scoring in the first half flying by the defense and beating the keeper low. She scored again on a similar play on a great assist from Angie Perkins where she was able to outrun the entire defense.
Reagan Cola controlled the mid-field the whole game and gave Lisbon fits all night. She made it 3-0 on an unassisted goal by taking the ball all the way from midfield straight to goal for the score. The game went in to the half, 3-0.
In the second half, Angie Perkins scored "what may have been the best goal of the season scoring from an impossible angle on the sideline off the far post and in," said Powell. "Boothbay cruised to victory from there."
Powell said the defense had outstanding games from the back four, Colette Bertin, Chyanne Rogers, Maddy Gaudette, and Tori Morin, and Jackie McLoon played great in goal for the second game in a row.
The Seahawks are currently in 10th place in Class C South Heal point standings and awaiting word on whether they hang on to that position for a preliminary tournament contest next week.
