Lady Seahawks keep Bulldogs at bay
Despite early foul trouble, the Lady Seahawks were able get the win over Hall-Dale 48-30, January 4. Following an offensively sluggish first quarter, Boothbay allowed Hall-Dale to get to the line 15 times to close the gap 21-19 at the half. During the third quarter the Lady Seahawks went on an 18-5 run to open up a 14-point lead headed into the final period.
The Lady Seahawks outscored the Bulldogs in the second half 28-11 and kept their best scorer, Natasha Brown to just two points.
“Ninety-nine percent of the time, we knew where she was, and we knew if anyone was going to go off, it was going to be her, and that was a credit to our defense,” Coach Tanner Grover said.
Sarah Caron led Boothbay in scoring with 16 points followed by Alex Clarke's 8 points. Allison Crockett led Hall-Dale with nine points.
Hall-Dale's head coach Brandon Terrill said in the first half, he thought his team had aggressiveness and executed the game plan, but struggled in the second half which forced the Bulldogs to take more outside shots.
“We kind of got away from our game plan, but I was proud of the way we played hard,” Terrill said.
Last season Hall-Dale graduated three starters which included Carylanne Wolfington who led the Bulldogs to the state championship game where they were defeated by Central High School. This year, Terrill said he had to make some adjustments.
“On my end it's finding roles and finding how to optimize talent that we have, and still do have,” Terrill said. “It's just on my end as the coach, figuring out how to implement it most effectively.”

Original post: The Lady Seahawks tip off against ninth-seeded Hall-Dale Bulldogs (2-4) at 7 p.m., January 4, at Boothbay Region High School. Grover said he expects a hard fight from Hall-Dale. The Bulldogs won the Western Class C title last year, but fell to Central High School in the state championship game. Hall-Dale returns Allison Crockett, a power post player, and their main shooter, Natasha Brown, but graduated three seniors, including their star player, Carylanne Wolfington, who now plays for Colby College. “This is a team we definitely can't take lightly. They're well coached, and they should be a good game on Friday,” Grover said.
