Classic ballet and opera at The Harbor Theatre
The Harbor Theatre will begin screening ballets, stage musicals, and operas at 2 p.m. on the second Wednesday December through July.
Theater owner Jason Sheckley decided to bring this programming back (after giving it a shot last year) to go out with a bang what with the theater's last season coming up next year. As has been previously reported, the theater will close after 15 years in September 2017.
But, until then ... he will continue to offer first run films, which follow Sheckley's personal collection of classic cartoons and featurettes (the kind those of us of “a certain age” love seeing).
And now for the schedule: The holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” choreographed by Rudolph Nureyev, Dec. 14; “Samson et Dalila,” Jan. 11; “Capuleti e Montecchi Liceu” Feb. 8; “Contes D'Hoffmann,” March 8; “I Due Foscari La Scala,” April 12; “Macbeth Liceu,” May 10; “Songe D'une Nuit D'Ete,” June 14 and “Cosi Fan Tutte,” July 12.
The Harbor Theatre is located at 185 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. For more information, call 633-0438 or visit www.harbortheatre.net.
