‘Star Wars,’ love and racism, and visitors from far, far away

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new epic adventure from Lucasfilm, the first of the Star Wars standalone films, prequels to the original Star Wars films that began in the mid-1970s.
In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
The ensemble cast includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Mad Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, James Earl Jones and Jiang Wen.
Writing for Reel Views, critic James Berardinelli describes the film as “ … one of 2016's most anticipated films and it doesn't let down the legions who have been waiting for it.”
The film continues at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, Thursday, Dec. 29, Friday, Dec. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 31. Last screening at 2 p.m. New Year's Day, Sunday, Jan. 1. Sunday evening shows will resume in April. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

“Loving” From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown.
Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry - and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since. PG-13.
