Boothbay handles Mt. Abram
The Boothbay Region High School boys varsity basketball team evened its record at 3-3 with a 57-39 win over the Mt. Abram Roadrunners at the Augusta Civic Center Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 27.
The Seahawks’ high scorer was Carter Babcock with 14 points. Dan Luce led Mt. Abram with 18 points.
Mt. Abram dropped to 0-6 on the season with the loss.
Austin Campbell scored eight first quarter points to get the Seahawks off to good start. After one stanza, the Seahawks had a 22-5 lead, but were outscored in the second quarter, 14-13, as the Seahawks lost some of their intensity. In the second quarter, Kyle Ames and Jacob Leonard had to exit the game as they both had two fouls. The locals led at the half 35-19.
The scoring dropped off in the third quarter as both teams picked up the defensive intensity. After three quarters the Seahawks were nursing a 20-point lead and Coach I.J. Pinkham was using multiple players to maintain the lead.
The Seahawks had multiple players in double figures. Besides Babcock’s 14, Ames and Leonard each scored 11 and Campbell contributed 10. The leading rebounder for the game was Babcock with eight.
“We had great first quarter, getting out in transition and running our offensive sets well,” said Pinkham via email. “Our defense was adequate most of the game, but we are still struggling with our rebounding, particularly on the offensive boards. Defensive rebounding is easy as the players have inside position, but you have to be aggressive, intense and focused to rebound on the offensive end. We don’t have that yet. Carter Babcock had a great game and always gives us a days work, and Jacob Leonard is getting into game shape quickly."
Boothbay is scheduled to face Telstar Regional Middle/High School in Bethel on Thursday, Dec. 29, with the varsity game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
