Winter storm expected to start tonight
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a winter storm watch has been issued for Monday night, Jan. 23, into Tuesday, Jan. 24, with different types of precipitation possible.
The storm has the potential to bring six or more inches of snow inland or sleet, due to warm air coming from the north, or freezing rain. A coastal front is likely to form that could bring enough low level warm air to change the precipitation to rain near the coast.
The advisory is for coastal Cumberland and Waldoboro; Sagadahoc, Lincoln and Knox counties, as of 11:43 this morning.
Winds will be from the northeast at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. Travel will be difficult. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility. If you must drive, use caution.
