Seahawks battle Tigers
The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks swim team has faced weather issues this season, with two meets cancelled due to storms. These meets, against Erskine on Jan. 3 and MCI on Jan. 24, were not rescheduled, making the Seahawks’ season a mere eight meets before States on Feb. 18 and 20.
Even so, as the season wraps up, three swimmers have qualified for the state meet including newcomer Rowan Kristan, veteran swimmer Emma Pearce and team captain Evy Case.
On Jan. 10, the team hosted the Gardiner Tigers. Out of seven events they participated in, the Seahawks took first twice, second three times, third once, fourth in one, fifth twice, and sixth once.
First places went to Case in both the 200-yard and 50-yard freestyles. Pearce took second in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke, and Kristan took second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Third was taken by the girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team, which also took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay. Fifth was earned by Ashley Ames in the 100-yard backstroke and Molly Thibault in the 100-yard freestyle; Thibault also picked up a sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.
The Seahawks are preparing for their final meet on Friday, Jan. 27 at home vs. Erskine at 6 p.m.
