Boothbay Wildcats win Busline League championship
The Boothbay Region Elementary School 8th grade girls basketball team finished its undefeated (14-0) season by winning the 2016-2017 Busline League championship game, 49-24, over Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast on Saturday, Jan. 28 at Belfast.
Boothbay's strong defense has been consistent all season and the championship game was no exception. The Wildcats forced many Belfast turnovers, which led to several scores. BRES broke the game open in the second half as they outscored Troy Howard 31-15 to get the win.
BRES advanced to the championship game by defeating Camden-Rockport, 53-26, in the semifinal.
The scoring for Boothbay against Belfast was led by Glory Blethen with 15 points followed by Sydney Welch with 8, Jaelyn Crocker 7, and Kiley Brown and Rachel Gentry with 6 each.
Coached by John Deetjen, team members included 8th graders Glory Blethen, Kiley Brown, Haley Abbott, Rachel Gentry, Emma Brewer, Isabel Harkins, Abby Little, and 7th graders, Emile Crocker, Sydney Welch and Jaelyn Crocker.
