‘Hedda Gabler’ next National Theatre Live broadcast
It has been 10 years since Ruth Wilson rose to prominence playing Jane Eyre in a much-admired BBC series. Since then she has gone from strength to strength in a range of demanding, complex roles. Now, aged 34, she takes on Ibsen’s most finely wrought anti-heroine “Hedda Gabler,” the model of destructive marital discontent. Hedda Gabler will be broadcast live from the National Theatre on Thursday, March 9 at 2 p.m. and re-broadcast the same evening at 7 to the screen at Lincoln Theater.
In Ibsen’s classic tale, Hedda and Tesman have just returned from their honeymoon and the relationship is already in trouble. Trapped but determined, Hedda tries to control those around her, only to see her own world unravel.
Tony Award-winning director Ivo van Hove returns to National Theatre Live screens with a modern production of this new version penned by Patrick Marber (“Notes on a Scandal,” “Closer”). Tickets, $15/adult, $13/ Theater members and $5/youth 18 and under, are available in advance or one hour before the show.
