BRHS track team competes in first two meets
Spring has been slow in arriving and outdoor track athletes have faced chilly conditions during their early season meets. Despite the cold, Boothbay Region High School track teams have been turning in some excellent performances.
At Wiscasset on April 25, in their “home” meet, BRHS faced Wiscasset, Mountain Valley and Richmond.
Standout performers for the girls team included Reagan Cola, first in the 200m dash, Loren Genrich, first in 300m hurdles and shot put, Sydney Mercier, third in 100m dash and Riley Sullivan, second in shot put.
For the boys, Draco Peaslee finished first in the 100m dash, second in the 200m dash and third in long jump; Blake Erhard, first in the 800m run and third in the 1600m run; Kyle Ames finished first in the 1600m run; Bayly Gaughan-Carrasco finished second in the 400m dash and second in the 3200m run; Rowan Kristan finished fourth in the 800m run; Will Perkins placed first in the 3200m run and fourth in the high jump, Connor Demmons placed fourth in shot put and second in discus, Sam Burnham placed third in javelin and 1600m racewalk and Trae Muzima placed fourth in javelin.
For the women’s teams, Wiscasset placed first with 92 points, followed by Mountain Valley 91, BRHS 60, Richmond 58, and Dirigo 42. Team scores for the mens’ teams were Mountain Valley with 130, BRHS 96, Wiscasset 68, Dirigo 46, and Richmond 24.
On May 2, BRHS traveled to Hall-Dale for a meet that also included Lisbon, Monmouth and Richmond.
Reagan Cola finished first in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes, Paolillo placed third in the 100m hurdles and fourth in 300m hurdles, Mercier, third in the 100m dash, BRHS 4x100m relay team (Sullivan, Mercier, Paolillo, Elizabeth Wright) finished first; Loren Genrich, first in long jump and third in 300m hurdles, triple jump and long jump.
Women’s team scores were Monmouth 129, Lisbon 119, BRHS 59, Hall-Dale 43, and Richmond 30.
The BRHS 4x800m relay team (Erhard, Ames, Gaughan-Carrasco, Kristan) placed first; Peaslee finished first in 100m dash, 200m dash, and long jump; Will Perkins, fourth, 1600m run; Brandon Andrews third, 200m dash, Erhard second, 3200m run, Bayly Gaughan-Carrasco third, 3200m run; Connor Demmons, first in shot put and second in discus; Jay Hasch, third in javelin and second in triple jump and high jump. Men’s team scores were Lisbon 174, Hall-Dale 82, BRHS 80.5, Monmouth 46, and Richmond 11.5.
On May 9, the teams travel to Telstar for their next conference meet.
