Seahawks’ hot bats beat Mt. Abram, 11-9
The BRHS Seahawks baseball team slugged its way to an 11-9 win over a pesky Mt. Abram High School team to gain its second win of the season on Thursday, May 11.
Coach Josh Garneau said he had to make some difficult choices by starting his ace Cameron Crocker, who was limited to 19 pitches to be eligible to pitch again on Friday against Monmouth Academy.
“My goal was to save him,” said Garneau.
Crocker was replaced by Mike Ripley in the third with a 5-1 lead. Ripley was met with a comeback barrage by the Mt.Abram Roadrunners, who scored five runs to take the lead.
Ripley gave way to Carter Babcock who managed to slow Mt. Abram’s attack. The Seahawks came back with four runs of their own in the fourth inning only to be tied 9-9 in the sixth inning.
Garneau then made the decision to bring Crocker back in to put a stop to the Roadrunners’ rally.
The Seahawks started their winning attack in the bottom of the sixth with a double by Babcock.
“We knew it would be a high-scoring game,” said Garneau following the game.
Unfortunately, Crocker will not be able to pitch for four days due to the pitch count. Garneau planned to start Hunter Crocker on Friday.
“It was a good game,” said Garneau.
The Seahawks are now 2-4. The Roadrunners dropped to 0-8.
