Lady Seahawks slip past Dirigo
The Boothbay Region High School varsity girls basketball team found its rhythm in the second half and delivered the Dirigo Cougars their third loss of the regular season, 48-43, January 26.
Boothbay struggled early in the game trying to find a pace. In the second quarter Dirigo was able to get the ball inside and outscored Boothbay 17-9, leaving the Lady Seahawks trailing by 6 points at the half.
Abby McLellan came out in the third quarter causing two turnovers and scored four points in transition. Also, Boothbay's power forwards, Allison Crocker and Alex Clarke, both chipped in for seven points combined, keeping the Cougars to just three points in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Cougars clawed their way back to within five points, but could not contain Morgan Crocker, who led all scorers with 13 points, Clarke who scored 12, and McLellan, 11 points.
The Lady Seahawks have now sustained an 11-game winning streak since their record was tied at 2-2, December 15. With only three games left in the regular season, Boothbay now sits atop the Western Maine Class C Conference standings.
Boothbay will travel to St. Dominic Academy (7-7) in Lewiston Tuesday, Jan. 29 to face the Saints at 7 p.m.
