Winthrop edges Boothbay, 2-0
The Winthrop Ramblers scored a goal in each half and held host Boothbay scoreless in a 2-0 Class C North field hockey win at Perkins Field Friday, Sept. 8. It was Boothbay’s first loss of the young season.
Kinli Dibiase scored at the 19:28 mark of the first half on a breakaway shot from about five feet in front of the goal. Nora Conrad got her goal at the 6:58 mark of the second half, tipping the ball in the goal after a flurry of passes and shots.
The Seahawks (2-1) couldn’t mount much of an offense as the quick-footed Ramblers stepped in front of several passes in the scoring area. Boothbay had only a couple of good scoring chances on its nine shots on goal. Winthrop didn’t have many easy scoring chances, either, as Boothbay’s defense played well. The Ramblers, now 3-0, only had 11 shots on goal. Winthrop led in penalty corners, 8-7.
Boothbay is scheduled to play at Dirigo on Monday and at Lisbon on Wednesday.
