Nursing homes: Keep your distance to keep them safe
There are 93 long-term care facilities in Maine, most of which are either nursing homes or assisted living facilities for seniors. About a dozen of these are in Lincoln County.
This past weekend, after a handful of patients and workers tested positive for COVID-19 at an Augusta facility, the Maine CDC tested all staff and residents there and found that 55 of them were positive, including nearly two-thirds of the residents. Pets and COVID-19
Amid concerns and news about COVID-19, there also came news reports of a tiger in a New York zoo and three cats and two dogs in China, France and Belgium all testing positive for the virus after being exposed to it by humans.
Fortunately, dogs and pet owners are still loving and caring for their beloved furbabies, according to Mary Sundeen, president of Midcoast Humane in Brunswick and Edgecomb and Dr. Dean Domeyer of Boothbay Animal Hospital.

Need for ‘Veggies to Table’ grows amid coronavirus pandemic
In 2012, Massachusetts native Erica Berman and husband, Frenchman Alain Ollier, left Paris, France and arrived in Midcoast Maine searching for a “more meaningful life.” The couple made Newcastle home, and began planning on creating a non-profit organic farm providing food-insecure families with access to fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers.

UPDATED: COVID-19 deaths recorded in Waldo, York counties as toll hits 27
AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has announced, April 16, an additional three COVID-19 deaths in the state, bringing the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 27.
The individuals were a woman in her 70s from Waldo County, a woman in her 80s from York County and a man in his 70s from York County.
