Vietnam veterans and families, mark Friday, March 27 on your calendar. The state and the Travis Mills Foundation will honor our state’s Vietnam Veterans and families. Sunday March 29 is the National Vietnam War Veterans Day. The National Vietnam War Veterans Day was declared by Presidential Proclamation on March 29, 2012. It stated in part:

“Through more than a decade of conflict that tested the fabric of our Nation, the service of our men and women in uniform stood true. Fifty years after that fateful mission, we honor the more than 3 million Americans who served, we pay tribute to those we have laid to rest, and we reaffirm our dedication to showing a generation of veterans the respect and support of a grateful Nation.”

On March 27 at 9 a.m., the Travis Mills Foundation will be holding a breakfast for all Vietnam Veterans in National Guard Armory in Augusta. This will be followed by Maine Bureau of Veterans Services hosting their ceremony honoring Vietnam Veterans, again in the Armory, from 1-4 PM. Included in the ceremony will be a display honoring Vietnam veterans from our Peninsula. Registration is required for both events. Go to www.maine.gov/veterans to register for the afternoon event. For the Travis Mills hosted event, Google Travis Mills Foundation Vietnam Veterans Breakfast 2020 to find the registration form. Remember, this is for all veterans who served during from Feb. 28,1961 to May 7, 1975, whether you served in combat or not. If you haven’t already received your certificate of appreciation send me your DD 214 and I will submit the application to ensure you are recognized at the event.

Our Sunday breakfasts will start again on April 5 and will continue every other Sunday until Nov. 1. This year we will have some surprise additions to the venue. If you have some breakfast favorites, let us know. You never know, we just might be able to satisfy you!

Our area lobstermen have once again indicated they would like to host our Maine veterans on the water. Stand by for more information as the plans develop.

With the Hall renovations almost complete, Hall rentals are starting to come in. I suspect this will be a busy season so I highly recommend you plan ahead and book the Hall as soon as possible. Anytime you would like to look at the new renovations to see if the Hall now meets your needs, just let me or one of our officers know.

Monday, March 9 is our next meeting.
