Boothbay Region YMCA Community Catalyst for Good

Do Good, Feel Good

Mon, 06/10/2024 - 8:45am

Coming to the Y is a way to feel good. There are classes. A pool. Exercise machines. Pickleball. Youth programs. Childcare. Friendly faces. Motivation. And so much more. As summer arrives, there’s a way to get outside, feel good…and do good. On June 8th, anytime from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Y staff invites the community to help prepare the Camp Knickerbocker grounds for summer programming. Volunteer opportunities will include trail maintenance; landscaping; setting up program areas; folding T-shirts; checking inventory; cleaning up Jackson Island; pressure washing, and more.

Fun fact: volunteering has been proven to increase self-esteem and lower stress. It has a positive impact on volunteers and the community. Sounds great, right? Sure. But we’re all busy and volunteering takes time. That’s why the Y has made it easy. Camp K Clean Up Day is a small commitment. You can pop in anytime for an hour to meet the staff, help clean up, or lend your area of expertise. All are welcome, and all are encouraged. The Y wouldn’t be the hub of the community without the heart of the community.

"We appreciate members of the community participating in opening camp each year to allow folks the opportunity to see the property, learn more about the programs, and let our enrolled families have a bit of ownership with setting up spaces for their campers to enjoy over the next few weeks!" said Erin Gray, senior program director. There’s something for everyone on June 8th and you don’t have to make a long-term commitment to make an enormous impact. For more information on how to sign up—or simply show up—contact Erin Gray at egray@brymca.org. We can’t wait to see you on the 8th so we can feel good and do good, together.
