Mike and Kathy Loewe of Boothbay downsized in a good way on Friday, Aug. 8.

With help from G & G Towing, a Baldwin classic piano, which the Loewes had purchased about 15 years ago for their grandson to learn to play, was transported to the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Village.

"I learned at the Rotary Auction breakfast that the Gregory Wing needed an upright piano, and Daren (Graves, owner of G & Towing) was there and offered to tow it to the Gregory Wing,” Mike Loewe said.

Using a flatbed tow truck, G & G employees strapped the donated piano on the truck and brought it to the Village, where Village employees were waiting outside with the old upright piano. Graves and his employees carefully unloaded the new piano, transferred the wheels on the old piano to the new one, and wheeled it into the Gregory Wing. They quickly strapped the old piano onto the flatbed and brought it to the dump.

"It's nice to give it (the piano) a second life," said Loewe, who got a big hug from Gregory Wing activities director Jeri Phinney after the piano arrived.
