Juniper and McKown Points

Mon, 07/01/2024 - 10:00am

A short column this week, as the Point revs up for the holiday, culminating with the lobster bake Saturday. In 1993 my family rented the Music Box (where else?) for a week, back when the lobster bake alternated between July and August. I remember returning to the cottage afterwards and looking back at Whitten’s Field, thinking that it was a perfect Maine scene. It included Brud, who always parked his dog cart close to Massachusetts Road so he could get home before dark.

The nostalgia may come from attending Art Barnes’ memorial service where his family beautifully combined music, words and photos to capture his life, with an emphasis on his lifelong attachment to Maine. His children and grandchildren spoke with love and humor about their experiences growing up with Art. The community here will miss him in many ways, especially at the Community House piano.

Yoga with Romee last Saturday was full of energy with 18 people. This week only, the morning of the Lobster Bake, yoga class will go from 8-9 so the cooks can get an early start in the kitchen.

Stay energized with Joan’s fitness class on Thursdays at 10 at the Community House. Just show up wearing sneakers and maybe bring a towel.

The Sunday evening Ice Cream Social is more than ice cream I’ve learned. Dave and Becky serve ice cream sundaes at 6:30 followed by several rounds of Bingo, ending at 7:30. Katherine did a great job calling the numbers this week. And yes, there are prizes.

Please send me what you’ve got in the way of news or announcements by next Sunday morning.
