Pastor Marcus Privitt at Wilson Chapel July 16

Sun, 07/09/2023 - 12:15pm

Pastor Marcus Privitt will lead the service at Wilson Memorial Chapel on Ocean Point this Sunday, July 16. The service is at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome!

Marcus Privitt is a graduate of Virginia Tech (2013, BS Industrial/Systems Engineering) and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (2016, Master in Divinity, focus in New Testament Studies). He is a licensed minister in the Evangelical Covenant Church and pursuing ordination.

Marcus began studying Christianity in high school and was so compelled by the claims of Christ that he has given his life to learning, preaching, exploring, and teaching the scriptures in various contexts. He began leading small group Bible studies and serving on the leadership team in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Virginia Tech before going to seminary in 2013. While in seminary, he served as intern at Highrock North Shore (now known as Anchor Bay Church) from 2014 to 2016. He was invited to serve as part-time assistant pastor in 2016 upon graduation.

In 2018, Marcus joined a team to help start a new church now known as Haverhill Commons Church. He served as part-time associate pastor for two years. After getting married and moving to New York for a season, he and his wife, Caroline Kern Privitt, returned to Massachusetts, and Marcus returned to his part-time associate pastor position at Haverhill Commons Church. He serves there today primarily in an executive role and preaches every 4-6 weeks.

Marcus reflects, “Despite all its messiness, I love the local church. I believe the local church is where we and the world around us can experience healing. Make no mistake: healing doesn’t happen when we believe the right things, make the perfect church, or even develop a perfect devotional life. Rather, I believe healing happens when a group of people decide to share life with one another and humble ourselves before God’s teaching.”
