Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club
The Boothbay Region High School Sailing Club is off to a great start. The fall weather has really cooperated, providing great conditions in which to sail and race. With young sailors from the Boothbay Region, Edgecomb, Lincoln Academy, Bremen, and other locations, there is a strong mix of kids participating. Sailing experience is not a prerequisite to participate and all students who meet their school’s eligibility requirements are welcome.
As usual the program will run through October and into November, referred to as “dry suit season.” The most recent event had the team competing in Sharon, Massachusetts, against 19 other teams from around New England. The event, known as the Fall FunFest (Gleekman Trophy), is a qualifier event for other regattas.
The Club serves high school and middle school students alike and you can see them practicing three days a week after school in the Harbor. Then they are often off on weekends to racing events from Southwest Harbor, Maine, to Massachusetts, and beyond.
The programs are sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club with financial aid provided through the generous support of the BHYC Junior Program Foundation. For more information you can go to our website, https://www.bhyc.net/high-school-sailing
