Butler Road utility extension nears completion
As summer kicks into high gear, the utility extension project on Butler Road, Boothbay is nearing completion. Work began in earnest on the water and sewer infrastructure improvement project in January. Steve McGee Construction of West Gardiner is the project’s general contractor. The scope of work includes adding a sewer force main and a new water main, building an access road onto the Butler Road parcel, building a retaining wall and culvert, and various excavation, ledge removal, filling, and paving activities. Final paving on Country Club and Butler roads is expected to start the week of July 8 and finish within a few days.
The town of Boothbay is providing $1,500,000 in TIF funding towards this project. The non-profit Boothbay Regional Development Corporation (BRDC) also contributed $250,000 in ARPA grant funding from Lincoln County, and $50,000 in ARPA grant funding from the town of Boothbay, in addition to privately raised funds. In addition to serving the Butler Road property, sewer service will now be available to nearly thirty additional property owners on Country Club and Butler roads.
This work is the first phase of construction on the Butler Road parcel, which is being developed by the non-profit Boothbay Regional Development Corporation (BRDC). Steve Malcom, the organization’s president, remarked “We’re so happy to be at this stage, laying the groundwork to build some much-needed affordable housing on the Boothbay peninsula. This project would not be possible without the financial and moral support of the Boothbay community—our deepest thanks to the individuals that donated funds to help make this project a reality.”
BRDC acquired the Butler Road property in 2023 and plans to build a variety of housing on the site including both for-rent and for-sale options, targeted to households making between 80% and 120% of the Area Median Income.
