As the summer of 2020 winds down, the music continues to heat up at the Opera House in Boothbay Harbor. With audience sizes limited to 50 due to Covid-19 precautions, and well-spaced seats, the cavernous historic performance hall could feel empty but shows this summer have proven that 50 people can sound like 250. Due to the limited seating, virtually all shows sell-out in advance of the performance date. Audience members interested in heading out for some live music are encouraged not to wait to purchase tickets.

Livingston Taylor takes to the stage on Friday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Taylor has stopped by the Opera House in past years presenting evenings of his Taylor-style folk and gospel music and story-telling. A long-touring and widely respected musician in his own right, Livingston is also brother to James Taylor, and as a songwriter has composed many of James’ hits. There is currently a waiting list for the Livingston Taylor concert. Tickets are $35. 

Portland-based, Maine-native Dave Rowe is a singer-songwriter and interpreter of traditional and modern song—whose 30-year career has had him on stages all over the eastern seaboard and throughout America’s heartland. Dave’s handmade, heartfelt music springs from deep roots borne out of the song traditions of Ireland and the British Isles, cultivated in the roots music of North America, and filtered through Dave’s classical training. Armed with his guitar, a dream, a quick wit, a soaring tenor voice, and the heart of an entertainer, he’s enthralled audiences everywhere he’s gone. Son of Schooner Fare’s Tom Rowe, Dave’s talents were apparent at a young age. Don’t miss this evening of folk on Friday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $20.

The Portland Symphony, like almost every musical group in America, has been uncommonly quiet for many months. When the Opera House management approached the symphony and invited smaller groups within the orchestra to perform they enthusiastically responded. On Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. the Opera House will welcome the ensemble of Alison Hale, Flute, Yasmin Craig-Vitalius, Violin, Laurie Kennedy, Principal Viola and David Paschke, Cello. Their program will include Valerie Coleman - Danza de la Mariposa for solo flute Mozart - Quartet for Flute and Strings in D Major, K. 285, in addition to other works. Advance tickets $20.

Closing out the month, a regional favorite, The Boneheads, will return to the stage on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Featuring the uber talents Bob Colwell, Steve Jones, Scott Elliot and Dick Hollis, the Boneheads repertoire is wide-ranging and audience members can expect a mix of rock, blues, folk, and country from this talent foursome. Advance tickets $20.

All seats are reserved at well-spaced tables. Masks are required throughout the evening.
