The Rev. Canon George Maxwell at All Saints July 7, 14
The Rev. George Maxwell, vicar of the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, Georgia will preside over the celebration of the service of Holy Communion at 8 and 10 a.m. on July 7 and 14. We will continue to enjoy the organ talents of Mr. Henry Lowe leading us in musical worship. People of all faiths are invited to attend the services.
The vicar is responsible for all operations of the cathedral including its staff, programs, and ministries. Rev. Maxwell especially enjoys teaching the old-fashioned Sunday school and leading several small groups. He is actively involved in many Episcopal leadership positions including the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Atlanta, Learning to Lead, a training course in the principals of adaptive leadership to the church, and the Bishop’s Advisory Council for the church of Common Ground. He is passionate about spiritual wellness for clergy and holds several certificates in spiritual guidance and leadership. George was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in 2011 and earned his Masters of Divinity degree from Emory University. The Maxwell family has grown to love their summers in Maine and we are blessed to have his guidance as part of the Governing Committee at All Saints.
On Tuesdays, July 9 and 16 from 9 to 10 a.m., Rev. Maxwell will lead an informal discussion of the week’s scriptures on the porch of the chapel. This is a special time to share insights as well as questions with each other and Rev. Maxwell. Attendees of All Saints as well as members of other area churches are encouraged to attend.
All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about two miles on the left driving south on Route 238. An Episcopal Church sign marks the side of the road. Parking is available along Route 238, or if necessary, in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces off All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps. Due to damage from the winter storms, the dock is not currently available. The very beautiful and simple wood chapel is open for quiet prayer and meditation during the week.
