Are 2 better than 1? CSD boards to talk governance options In reponse to school committee comments, Boothbay Region Community School District (CSD) is discussing one-board governance. Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm in concert Oct. 25 Inanna, Sisters in Rhythm, will fill Broad Bay Congregational Church (941 Main St., Waldoboro) with the sounds of African drums and chanting in a concert for all ages on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. This concert is free to the community with donations welcomed. Guided hike at Crooked Farm Preserve with Coastal Rivers Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust naturalist Sarah Gladu will lead a hike at Crooked Farm Preserve in Bristol from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18. During this leisurely hike, walkers will enjoy fall foliage along a lovely stretch of the Pemaquid River and take a close look at mosses, lichens, and other special features of the marshy habitat there. Cats and kittens available for adoption Local pet advocate Lawrence Pitcher said the Midcoast Humane animal shelter in Brunswick, still has cats and kittens available for adoption. On Oct. 12, Walsh brought cats and kittens to Ames Supply in Wiscasset and 13 of them were adopted. BRHS Homecoming parade tonight Boothbay Region High School will hold its annual Homecoming Parade tonight, Oct. 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the school. The parade, featuring each class’s floats, fire trucks and more, will make a loop around the downtown and return to the school. A bonfire will follow the parade on the BRHS campus. The Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Boothbay Railway Village Museum Town Hall. CTL open house Oct. 27 The Center for Teaching and Learning, a Pre-K–8 independent school in Edgecomb, will hold an open house on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. All members of the midcoast community are cordially invited to tour the school, meet the faculty, and ask questions about the program. We welcome everyone interested in learning more about CTL, including families with children younger than school age, families with a current kindergarten student, families applying for the 2025-26 school year, and families who have already submitted an application. 11 new members inducted into the BRHS National Honor Society The Boothbay Region High School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in the BRHS Gym. The 11 new inductees were Madeleine Andreason, Magen Burge, Rose Campbell, Sarah Harris, Hanna Kreft, Bailey Lewis, Eleanor Marshall, Chase Mansfield, Piper McKane and Abigail Orchard. 'Go Gold For Cancer' fundraiser raises over $10K Second year success! Heads of the Harbor Salon held its second annual “Go Gold For Cancer” fundraiser in honor of Jameson Brooks who passed away December of 2022 from childhood cancer. This year the salon set a goal to raise more than the first year. In 2023 they raised $6,000 and this year they raised over $10,400. Hundreds of salon clients, friends and family stopped by with donations from $1 to over $1,000. 56th annual Fall Foliage Festival returns for another successful year It may have been a blustery day on Saturday, Oct. 12, but that didn’t stop attendants from enjoying the first day of Boothbay Railway Village Museum (BRMV)’s 56th annual Fall Foliage Festival. The event boasted an array of local nonprofits, vendors, food trucks and fall activities to enjoy. The vocals from a rotating cast of live musicians underscored the noise of the crowds. Wiscasset school committee Why they left: Andersson airs results from survey of families Wiscasset Superintendent of Schools Kim Andersson told the school committee Oct. 8, she got back seven of the surveys sent to families of students who'd left Wiscasset Middle High School. Andersson said the results showed one moved out of town; two "were not satisfied or did not receive the support services they needed"; and four "were not satisfied with the safety of the school district." 'Nocturne' at Maine Art Gallery until Oct. 20 The theme of Maine Art Gallery’s final show for the 2024 season, “Nocturne,” provided its curator Thomas Connolly with a treasure trove of work in many mediums and styles.
