Seahawks win in OT, 2-1, over Oak Hill
Freshman Moriah Smith put a penalty stroke past goalie Ella Martin with 26.5 seconds to play in the extra eight-minute overtime period to give the Boothbay Region High School field hockey team a 2-1 victory at home over the Oak Hill Raiders on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The penalty was called against Oak Hill when junior Tatum French was tripped in the scoring arc as she had an open lane to the goal during the 7-on-7 matchup. Smith’s winning goal made it into the net to the goalie’s left side.
The game was mostly played outside the scoring arc with both teams not getting many shots on goal. Oak Hill had four shots on goal and Boothbay had three.
Freshman Arabella Hodgdon gave Boothbay a 1-0 lead in the first quarter with a goal at 2:09 of the 15-minute period.
Boothbay held the lead through the half and third quarter but Oak Hill’s Jaycla Smith tied the game early in the fourth quarter with 11:49 remaining.
With the win, the Seahawks improved to 3-5 on the season and were seeded eighth in Class C South division at press time. Oak Hill dropped to 2-9 on the season and is seeded ninth in the division. Oak Hill defeated Boothbay 1-0 in Wales in the first game of the season for both teams in early September.
The Seahawks were scheduled to play Spruce Mountain on Wednesday, Oct. 9, host Dirigo on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m., and host Lisbon on Saturday, Oct. 12 at noon.
