Winthrop/Maranacook defeats Boothbay
Madeline Wagner scored two second quarter goals and the undefeated Winthrop/Maranacook Ramblers went on to defeat the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 5-1, on Perkins Field, BRHS on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The Ramblers improved to 12-0 while the Seahawks dropped to 4-8 on the season.
The visitors scored first on a goal by Gracelyn Folsom at 12:01 of the first quarter. Wagner’s goals gave the Ramblers a 3-0 lead going into halftime.
Third quarter goals were tallied by Evelyn Mortimer and Raegan Littlefield before Boothbay scored its goal at 4:08 of the quarter. Zuri Smith drove ball about three-quarters of the length of the field on a long hit and a speedy Rose Campbell caught up with it. As Winthrop/Maranacook goalie Cyara Harriman came out to try and stop Campbell, the Seahawk junior changed direction and her shot from within the arc rolled into the goal.
Boothbay controlled the action in the fourth quarter but were unable to get a clean shot at the goal.
Winthrop/Maranacook had 11 penalty corners and Boothbay had five.
The Seahawks will host Hall-Dale on Friday, Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m. in the annual homecoming game. The final regular season game, a home make-up game against Lisbon, is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
