Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative is bringing Moonrise Kingdom (rated PG-13) to the Harbor Theater on Sunday, October 20th at 6:30pm.

The movie is free and open to the public!

Moonrise Kingdom takes place in 1965 on an island in New England. Two pre-teens meet and run away together. The scenery is reminiscent of our own local environment and plays almost as important a role as the actors themselves. The community bands together to try and rescue the couple from an incoming storm. Here we can draw a parallel to our communities’ efforts to protect Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake.

Moonrise Kingdom was released in 2012 and was directed by Wes Anderson, featuring actors Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Frances McDormand. With a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics have called this movie, “Warm, whimsical, and poignant, the immaculately framed and beautifully acted Moonrise Kingdom presents writer/director Wes Anderson at his idiosyncratic best.”

Recognizing the need for a regional watershed conservation effort, the Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative was formed in 2020. This unique collaboration has engaged the Town of Boothbay, the Town of Boothbay Harbor, and the Town of Southport, as well as some of the region’s most notable non-profit organizations the Boothbay Region Water District, the Boothbay Region Land Trust, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Bigelow Labs, the Boothbay Region YMCA in a new enterprise, whose sole goal is safeguarding the community’s water supply.

The Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative hopes you will join them to enjoy this free film!
