Nonprofit launched, more classes
Maine Tasting Center at 506 Old Bath Road in Wiscasset has expanded its calendar of classes in the Learning Center.
The business opened in July 2021 as a food and drink education center under the ownership of Andrew, Elizabeth and Sara Gross. The Tasting Room, a brew-pub style space, serves Maine-made food and beverages, and the Learning Center is a state-of-the-art classroom and demonstration kitchen.

New exhibit: Captains and Vessels of the Boothbay Region 1800 to 1921
On Thursday, April 7, the Boothbay Region Historical Society opens a new exhibit exploring the stories and histories of Boothbay’s captains and of the vessels built in the Boothbay region during America’s golden age of sail. “Captains and Vessels of the Boothbay Region 1800 to 1921” will run through the end of the year.

BSSC summer program weathers COVID-19 storm
Boothbay Sea and Science Center could not be stopped from celebrating its eighth summer program. Though there were no family cookout Fridays or tooling around in the turnabouts, 27 children participated in BSSC’s first virtual program and 12 staff were brought back to help manage the program and further their own marine educations.

Aggressive bidding at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Summer’s Bounty II sale on Aug. 29 & 30 yielded many surprises and strong results. Grossing over $2.2 million, the auction attracted 797 phone and absentee bids, and online participants in 22 countries.

‘Summer’s End’ art show at OPI
East Boothbay’s Ocean Point Inn is the venue for a new art show, “Summer’s End,” spearheaded by the inn’s Marketing Director Patricia Royall.
The outdoor opening reception Sept. 2 was held along the water’s edge looking over the bay. A wine tasting by Wicked Wines and a bevy of appetizers made by the inn’s staff offered that little something extra to the event. COVID-19 restrictions relating to masks and social distancing were observed.

Linekin Bay Resort presents “Dirty Dancing” as boat-in movie
Boaters and Linekin Bay Resort guests enjoyed the film “Dirty Dancing” Thursday evening, Aug. 27. Resort guests lounged in chairs by the pool, some watched from the pool, and boaters tuned into an FM broadcast station to catch the sound as they viewed the film from their moored, docked and anchored vessels.
The occasion was a breath of fresh air for all, a break from the pandemic keeping everyone apart. The audience included families, dates and a couple passers-by on kayaks.
