DOT revises Barters Island Bridge reopening to July

Tue, 05/25/2021 - 11:00am

The Barters Island Bridge project has been delayed by a month. The revised schedule indicates a reopening to traffic on July 1 and channel re-opening by the end of the following week, according Maine Department of Transportation Project Manager Glenn Philbrook. The project should reach full completion by the first week of September.

On May 24, Philbrook reported Reed & Reed, Inc. had added more shims under the reducer skid assembly, aligned the thruster brake shoe pad, and aligned the low speed coupler assembly to include the spacer kit installation. Workers also finished torqueing items, installed Live Load Roller shims, and adjusted the tapered shims on some balance wheels.  In early June, Panatrol and Flanders return to complete the bridge’s final commissioning and bridge tenders, said Philbrook.
