62nd annual Windjammer Days

Windjammer Days Street Parade: A whole lotta local fun

Thu, 06/27/2024 - 12:00pm

The sun was out, it was a bit humid, but there were ways to cool off (thanks to the squirt guns and fire apparatus) as the annual Windjammer Days Street Parade rolled through town to cheering crowds on Wednesday afternoon, June 26.

Here’s a long list of what was represented: businesses, nonprofits, organizations (anniversaries for Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, 100; Boothbay Railway Village Museum, 60; Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, 50; and Downeast Candies, 50) political groups, emergency vehicles, musicians, yacht clubs, the Community Band, the Sailing Masters of 1812 (a Street Parade regular for decades), Grand Marshal Tim Hodgdon (and his wife Cathy), Boothbay’s Got Talent contestants, adult pageant winners, Boothbay Baptist Church, pirates, law officers, American Legion Post 36, Kora Karts, at least one dog ... and more.

The hour-long parade did not disappoint and congratulations to the Street Parade committee, as well as the participants, for putting together such fun.

And the winners were: First place,: Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club; second, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens; third, Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library

Judges were Boothay Fire Chief David Pratt, Sharon Rose of NewsCenter 6 and Evan Hepburn from Carousel Marina.
